Update Space settings safely
Space settings control shared identity and owner-level actions for the active Space. Review the impact before changing a setting that can affect every member.
Use Space settings to:
- Update the Space avatar, name, and timezone.
- Review the current Space owner.
- Transfer ownership to another member.
- Archive, unarchive, or delete the Space when the owner action is available.
- Troubleshoot hidden, disabled, or unsaved settings.
Terms you may see:
- Space settings are shared and can affect every member.
- Owner-only actions are intentionally restricted because they can transfer control or remove access.
- App Settings are separate and control app areas, task fields, CRM options, point values, and time tracking.
- Member roles still control who can view, edit, delete, or manage work.
For a field reference, see Understand Space settings fields and owner actions.
Before you start
- You must be the Space owner for avatar, name, timezone, transfer, archive, unarchive, and delete actions.
- You must be online to save shared Space changes.
- Some actions may be hidden if the current plan or Space state does not allow them.
How Space details apply
- Open Settings.
- Open General or the Space settings area.
- Review avatar, name, timezone, owner, and Danger Zone actions.
- Update one setting at a time.
- Confirm the result in the header, Space selector, or affected page.
Expected outcome: The Space identity and owner-level state are updated intentionally, with no accidental access or recovery impact.
Rename or rebrand a Space
- Confirm the active Space in the header.
- Open Settings > General.
- Update the Space name or avatar.
- Wait for the update to finish.
- Ask another member to refresh if they still see the old name or image.
Change the Space timezone
- Open Settings > General.
- Select the timezone field.
- Choose the intended timezone.
- Confirm date-sensitive pages such as calendars, reminders, task dates, and dashboards still make sense.
Transfer ownership safely
- Confirm the next owner is an active Space member.
- Open Danger Zone.
- Expand Transfer ownership.
- Select the next owner.
- Confirm the action.
- Ask the new owner to refresh and check owner-only controls.
Archive, unarchive, or delete a Space
- Open Danger Zone.
- Choose the action that matches the intent.
- Read the confirmation text.
- Confirm only when the impact is clear.
- Expect the app to move away from the Space after archive or delete actions.
Troubleshooting
A Space field is disabled
- Symptom: You can see a field but cannot change it.
- Cause: The action may require the Space owner, an online connection, or a supported Space state.
- Resolution:
- Confirm you are online.
- Confirm you are the Space owner.
- Ask the current owner to make the change or transfer ownership.
Danger Zone is missing
- Symptom: Transfer, archive, unarchive, or delete actions are not visible.
- Cause: The action may be hidden by ownership, plan availability, or Space state.
- Resolution:
- Confirm the active Space.
- Confirm you are the owner.
- Ask an owner/admin to confirm whether the action is available.
A Space name or avatar does not update for other users
- Symptom: You see the new value, but another member sees the old value.
- Cause: Their app may not have synced yet.
- Resolution:
- Ask the member to refresh.
- Confirm their connection is online.
- Recheck after sync completes.
FAQ
Should I archive or delete a Space?

Can a non-owner change the Space name?
No. Shared Space identity fields are owner-only in the current settings page.
Are App Settings controlled here?
No. App Settings are a separate settings page for app areas, task fields, CRM options, point values, and time tracking.
