Track outcomes with Goals

Goals help track outcomes by connecting a goal summary, dates, description, milestones, Lists, and Tasks. Progress is calculated from connected work, so the Goal becomes a review surface for whether the work is moving toward the intended outcome.

Use Goals to:

  1. Define an outcome and expected time frame.
  2. Add milestones under the Goal.
  3. Link Lists and Tasks that contribute to the outcome.
  4. Review task counts and completion progress.
  5. Set reminders for Goal or milestone follow-up when available.

Before you start

  • Creating or editing Goals requires the relevant access.

  • Adding Lists or Tasks requires access to those items.

  • Reminder actions require reminder availability and access.

  • Mobile stacks the Goal sections vertically and uses touch delay for dragging milestones.

  • Date pickers and linked-work selection dialogs can occupy most of the screen on mobile.

Troubleshooting

Goal progress looks wrong

  • Symptom: The progress percentage does not match your expectation.
  • Cause: Progress is based on connected task counts. Lists and milestones can contribute tasks, including nested milestone tasks.
  • Resolution:
    1. Expand milestones and linked Lists.
    2. Check which Tasks are connected.
    3. Confirm the task statuses are updated correctly.

Add menu is disabled

  • Symptom: You cannot add a Milestone, List, or Task.
  • Cause: You may not have create access for the Goal or related work.
  • Resolution:
    1. Ask the owner or Space admin to confirm your role.
    2. Refresh after access changes.
