Use the Chat composer and channel info The Chat composer sends messages in the selected conversation. The conversation header confirms where you are replying and exposes channel actions when the selected conversation supports them.
Before you start
You need view access to read the conversation.
You need comment access to send messages.
You can edit or delete only messages you own.
Channel rename/settings/archive/delete require matching access.
Message Area Reference
Area What it does Notes Sender avatar/name Shows who sent a message group. Consecutive messages from the same sender can group together. Timestamp Shows when the message group was created. Edited messages show an edited marker with updated time. Unread divider Marks where unread messages begin. Appears only when unread messages exist. Message more actions Lets the message owner edit or delete the message. Hidden for messages sent by others. Scroll-to-bottom Jumps to latest messages. Appears after you scroll away from the bottom. No messages state Indicates the conversation has no messages yet. Use the composer to start.
Composer Reference
Control What it does Notes Message editor Type the message body. Uses the same rich text editor style as comments. Mentions Adds user mentions when supported by the editor. Mention delivery depends on notification settings. Send button Sends the message. Disabled only by missing access or unavailable editor state. Check button Saves an edited message. Appears when editing an existing message.
Send a Message
Select the correct conversation.
Confirm the channel or member names in the header.
Type your message in the composer.
Select the send button.
Confirm the message appears at the bottom of the conversation.
Edit or Delete Your Message
Find your message.
Open the message more actions menu.
Choose Edit or Delete .
For Edit, update the message and select the check button.
For Delete, confirm only when the message should be removed.
Channel Info Reference
Header action What it does Notes Channel name Confirms the active conversation. For direct/group chat, the name can be member-based. Rename Updates channel name. Only for channel-style conversations with edit access. Settings Opens channel settings. Only for channel-style conversations. Archive/Unarchive Changes active channel state. Requires delete access. Delete Removes the channel. Requires delete access.
Mobile opens the conversation as a focused full-screen dialog.
The composer adjusts around the keyboard and safe-area spacing on mobile.
Scroll-to-bottom floats above the composer so it remains reachable.
Troubleshooting
You replied in the wrong conversation
Symptom : The message appears under the wrong chat.
Cause : The wrong conversation was selected before sending.
Resolution :
Open the intended conversation.
Send a correction if needed.
Delete your mistaken message if appropriate and allowed.
Message edit is not available
Symptom : The message more actions menu does not show Edit.
Cause : You can edit only your own messages.
Resolution :
Confirm you sent the message.
Ask the sender to edit it, or add a follow-up correction.
Messages do not appear for others
Symptom : You sent a message but teammates do not see it.
Cause : Sync delay, offline state, or a different selected conversation.
Resolution :
Confirm network connectivity.
Verify everyone opened the same conversation.
Refresh after a short wait before resending.
